About

Hi, I'm Patricio Parada.

I've spent the last decade building forecasting systems and planning frameworks at companies like Intuit, GoDaddy, Shipt, and 1-800 Accountant. I hold a Ph.D. (ABD) in Electrical Engineering and an M.Sc. in Mathematics, which means I've spent an embarrassing amount of time thinking rigorously about hard problems.

And here's what all that rigor taught me: most bad decisions aren't caused by bad data. They're caused by bad thinking. Smart people, good information, wrong call. I've seen it happen at every level of every organization I've worked in, including my own decisions.

Decisions Engineer exists because nobody teaches professionals how to actually think through hard calls. Not in MBA programs, not in analytics bootcamps, not in leadership training. You're expected to figure it out on the job, usually after the damage is done.

I write about mental models, critical thinking, and the tradeoffs behind consequential decisions. I'll tell you when conventional wisdom is wrong. I'll push back on frameworks that sound smart but fall apart under pressure. And I'll share the lessons I learned the hard way so you don't have to.

If that sounds like something you need, subscribe below. No schedule, no filler. Just the next article when it's ready.
